Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the API Key important?
The API Key enables Evergen to securely connect with Amber's wholesale pricing, allowing your battery system to trade energy smartly and efficiently in the wholesale energy market.
Can I decide when I want my battery to trade energy or have any other input?
Evergen provides an automated solution for energy trading, therefore you cannot manually dispatch your battery or choose when it charges from the grid. Evergen is taking care of your energy 24/7 and factors in your site-specific energy pricing, as provided by Amber.
When can I expect to see my battery begin energy trading?
Once your system is fully integrated, our optimisation will learn how and when you consume energy for 7 days before your battery trades energy. After this initial learning period, your battery will trade energy when prices are high or low to maximise your overall savings.
What is the cost to access Evergen's optimisation for Amber?
$0. All you will be in for is Amber's monthly subscription as per your energy retail agreement.
Will Evergen curtail my excess solar generation when wholesale prices are negative?
Evergen currently does not provide this as a feature. Instead, our optimisation plans for your battery to charge when prices are negative, therefore, soaking up as much of the excess solar as possible to avoid negative feed-in charges.
Do I need to download the Evergen mobile app to use Evergen's software with Amber?
Downloading the Evergen mobile app is optional as it does not impact the automated trading of your stored energy.
What pricing inputs does Evergen take into consideration when trading my energy?
Evergen considers your wholesale electricity pricing (supplied by Amber via your API key) and your local network (DNSP) tariff which underlies all electricity tariffs.
As you would know by now, the wholesale price of electricity fluctuates depending on the demand for energy on the grid.
Network tariffs, however, are fixed tariffs that come in four forms depending on your local network (DNSP):
1. Flat tariffs - Same electricity price no matter the time of day.
2. Time of Use - Variable cost of energy depending on the time of day.
3. Peak demand - A pricing structure where the cost of electricity is based on the highest level of demand (peak usage - kW) during a billing period, rather than just the total amount of energy consumed. It incentivizes users to reduce their peak demand to lower their overall energy costs.
While taking into account wholesale energy prices for optimisation, the platform also considers your underlying network tariff for opportunities to improve your savings.
In the case of peak demand network tariffs, however, Evergen does not yet provide an optimisation solution that factors both the peak demand tariff and the wholesale price of electricity.
To learn more about peak demand tariffs, please visit Amber's article on this topic.
I'd like to set my own charge and discharge schedules within the settings of my OEM app. Will this work with Evergen's optimisation?
When Evergen is connected to your inverter, we expect the manufacturer will disable settings associated with setting charge and discharge schedules. This is to ensure that Evergen's ability to deliver savings for you 24/7, 365 days is not impacted by manual intervention.
